about

“Arrangements in Place by Jazmina Figueroa consists of five recorded arrangements, often made in collaboration with others, in which instrumental music and ambient sounds intermingle with spoken word. In the piece, the narration (spoken by the writer herself) detaches itself from the referent, pointing instead to the elastic and slippery materiality of language. The listener is exposed to the intimate proximity, but also to the disorienting effects of speech.

Bypassing the premise of omniscience, mastery, and liberal self-possession, the sounds and words in Figueroa's piece emphasise the incompleteness and fragility of each uttered statement, with "artefacts and ruins" of language participating in the drama of communication between the personal and the social.”

– Sebastjan Brank

Jazmina Figueroa is writer based in Berlin. Her works draw on recognizing data extraction and technology experience as personal and non-scalable with inherent socio-political underpinnings. Lately, she thinks a lot about what correlates with entropy and chaos.

Special thanks to those who have helped this project with your generous support, feedback, and inspiring contributions. Thank you to Tobias Koch, Theodolous Polyviou, Martin Kohout, Ondřej Teplý, Clemens Jahn, Dakis Panayiotou, Anike Joyce Sadiq, and Laura Katzauer – each of you shaped the arrangements in one way or another and I’m so grateful.
